Comprehensive Ambler PA Kids Gymnastic Program Provides Progressively Structured Classes For Growth

By Fernando Ketter

It is adorable when the little tots start learning to stand in line and do a somersault one by one. Proud parents may dream of going to competitions one day. Classes progress from beginners to intermediate and at Ambler PA Childrens Gymnastics all the way to advanced.

The beginners level is focused only on the sheer fun of movement. Little kids hate to sit still. In this class they are encouraged to run, jump, hop on one foot and try to do something that resembles a cartwheel. Appreciation of their efforts encourages them to try over and over.

Those attending the intermediate classes will have no trouble doing a perfectly executed somersault and cartwheel. Their legs and arms will be straight and their toes will be pointed. They will be proud of how graceful their tricks have become.

Along the way they are learning the names for the tricks and the equipment they will be using to perform some of them. A floor exercise is a tumbling run done to music and professionally choreographed. An arabesque position raises one leg up behind the child at a 45 degree angle to the rest of the body.

A balance beam is wooden and four inches in width. The girls perform acrobatics and hold some positions for a number of seconds to demonstrate control. A dismount varies, but must always land with both feet firmly on the floor.

For beginning students, the beam is placed slightly off the floor. The advanced students practice on one that is four feet higher than the floor. The competitions use the four-foot height.

The pommel horse is a rectangular shape apparatus with two handles called pommels. Boys perform leg swings in a variety of positions. They must exhibit great strength and control of body position.

Those advanced older children can enter a number of competitions. Regionals are open to gymnasts from specific countries. Nationals are open within specific countries. Competition ranges from high-school to college level. An elite gymnast is one who competes at the highest level and dreams of going to the Olympics one day.
