Use Commercial Fire Systems To Keep Your Employees Safe

By Mark Mahaffey

Home fire safety is what most people think of first, when they think of fire safety. And while home fire safety is important, so is workplace fire safety. In this day and time, workers are at their places of employment practically as long as they are at home, so it is crucial to have a good commercial fire system in place.

As you begin pulling together the different pieces of your commercial fire security plan, there are some various aspects that you should think about. For instance, in your office, make sure that all employees are aware of what the fire escape route is and how to navigate it. In addition, your building must have at least two exit doors.

These fire doors are there for a reason, because they are the way employees will escape if there is a fire. If these doors are blocked, it will be very hard for people to get outside in time, so make it a practice to keep the doors clear whenever anyone is inside your building. Check to make sure there are no desks, boxes, books or garbage cans sitting in the way of the doors.

Have you purchased fire extinguishers for your business? These can be a big help in keeping small fires from turning into large, out of control fires. Just be sure that you teach all your staff members the correct way to use them. You could hold training sessions every month, just to make sure everyone knows how to use them.

Automatic sprinkler systems are also a good idea if you are improving workplace fire safety. These can turn on in the event of a fire and can help contain the fire until the fire department arrives. They can be wired into your fire system so they turn on automatically when a fire breaks out.

And of course, you must have smoke and heat detectors in your business. Keep new batteries in them and check the wiring often, so that they will perform as expected in the event of a fire. There are a lot of fires that could have been avoided if the smoke detectors had been properly maintained and functioning.
