Many years ago, there was a huge campaign on Twitter marketing tools. Twitter was considered as a terrific new way of getting a list of people whom you could target to sell your products. But the question is, were any of those software packages that were promoted, actually doing you any good? Just how good is Twitter marketing? This article will examine the case for becoming involved and to find if it will actually repay your time and effort.
I was one of those who was curious to see if getting a huge following on Twitter was going to help my product promotion campaigns and so bought the tools. I signed up for programs that promised to get me followers on Twitter and paid for software tools to help advertise my products. All in all, I think I invested in about 8 software programs to help with my Twitter marketing efforts.
One of these programs was an automatic 'people follower' on Twitter with the aim that some of those people would follow me back. Then there was the tool that would un-follow individuals who were not following me. This would enable me to follow many individuals once again to get them to follow me. On top of some other tools that are not actually worth bringing up, I bought a program that would automatically take my blog posts and automatically Tweet them as soon as they were published on my blog.
And when I started using all of these tools the results seemed to be amazing as they all did exactly what they said they would do. Nevertheless, my exhilaration was quickly crushed when I realized that I wasn't making any money. I would post to my blog 10 times each day and those posts would be displayed directly on Twitter just like they ought to. Hoping to increase the number of daily posts, I discovered a way to automatically post any number of entries to my blog and hopefully get more followers on Twitter.
Now permit me to share with you my results. Applying this strategy over three years generated nearly 10,000 people following me on Twitter. You might think this is an awesome number, but I'm not done yet: In the same 3 year period, my Twitter account gathered over 15,000 blog posts that had links to my affiliate promotions.
My blog posts appearing on Twitter was the only type of advertising for that blog I did and to find out the effectiveness of Twitter I did not even ping new posts as they were published. Precisely how 'good' it was rapidly became apparent: after 3 years only two affiliate sales made me $46.74 plus a further $9.10 for Adsense. With only 2 - 4 visits per day coming from Twitter, perhaps this is not surprising.
Even with nearly 10,000 Twitter followers and using software automation, it seems that this is not sufficient to make money marketing with Twitter. At the end of the day I'm now out of pocket for the Twitter marketing tools I paid for because my dollar return was so low. There could be other more successful methods of promoting on Twitter, but from my experience, using automatic software tools is not one of them.
