Accounting is a very competitive career to enter now days as more and more students are entering the market with a college degree in accounting. Although a degree can get you far it takes a lot more than that in order to be competitive in this field than just a degree.

First- it takes a good amount of mathematical knowledge. Having a strong background in basic math such as percentages, division, multiplication, and algebra will get you ahead fast.

First, you should make sure that your personality fits well with finance. Learn about the careers that you would be interested in within the field of finance and don't be afraid to start talking to professionals that are working in a career you would be interested in.

By learning about the profession from those that are working in the profession, you may get a better feel for what happens in a career of finance. The stories that you hear may be much more realistic than those that you would read in any official report.
